1. EXPLORE THE BEACHES

October’s mild weather practically begs you to get out on the trails, and Algarve’s coastal paths are a must-see

The Seven Hanging Valleys Trail is a local favorite, winding along cliffs with jaw-dropping views of the ocean below. You’ll come across hidden coves, golden rock formations, and peaceful spots perfect for taking it all in.

Algarve’s historic towns are beautiful in October, as they’re calm and easy to explore without the usual crowds.

We highly recommend staying in Carvoeiro because that’s the center of the Algarve. From there, plan a day trip to Lagos to wander the cobbled streets, cozy cafes, and charming shops. Or, visit Tavira, where the Gilão River and medieval bridges make a perfect setting for a slow afternoon stroll.

And don’t miss Silves with its ancient castle, there’s something magical about seeing it.

Advantages of visiting Algarve in October

October is the Algarve’s hidden gem of a season. Here’s why it’s worth considering:

  • With summer over, the Algarve slows down. You’ll have more space on the beaches, trails, and local spots, making it a truly relaxing experience.

  • As it’s shoulder season, you’ll find great deals on accommodations and activities. It’s a win-win: all the beauty of the Algarve without the high prices.

  • Furthermore, October’s warmth is perfect for exploring without overheating, so you can really make the most of your days outdoors.

Disadvantages of visiting Algarve in October

As much as we love October in Algarve, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:

  • If you’re looking for warm swimming waters, October might not hit the mark. The sea sits around 20°C, so it can feel a little chilly if you’re planning a full day in the water.

  • Sunset arrives earlier in October, so you’ll have fewer daylight hours for exploring. Make an early start to fit in as much as possible.

  • October can bring the occasional light rain shower. It’s usually brief, but it’s good to be prepared with a rain jacket or small umbrella, just in case.
