Accommodations in the Algarve
When planning your vacation in the Algarve, we highly recommend that you consider staying in Carvoeiro. Here’s why: Carvoeiro is centrally located in the Algarve, so it’s really in the middle of everything. You can relax on gorgeous beaches, and explore hidden coves, all while being a short few minutes away from the town center for shopping or dining.
It’s also super convenient to explore towns like Faro or travel to nearby regions of Tavira, Lagos, and Ferragudo. Even the West Coast is accessible for day trips.
Plus, it’s only a 45-minute drive from Faro Airport, making it easy to get to from your arrival. Below are some places we recommend staying when you visit the Algarve for your vacation.

What type of accommodation is best in the Algarve — hotel, villa or apartment?
Honestly, it depends on how you travel. But let us break it down for you.
A villa is perfect if you’re coming with family or a group of friends. You get space, privacy, your own pool, and the freedom to eat breakfast in your pyjamas without anyone judging you.
An apartment is our personal favourite for couples or solo travellers. It gives you that home-away-from-home feeling — you can come and go as you please, and if you pick the right one, wake up to a sea view that’ll make every morning feel like a holiday. Something like Penthouse Atlântico in Carvoeiro is exactly what we mean.
A hotel is great if you want everything taken care of — daily housekeeping, a pool, a restaurant on-site.
Our honest take? For the best Algarve experience, go for an apartment or villa with a sea view. You won’t regret it.
Which area of the Algarve is best to stay in?
We’ll be straight with you — we’re a little biased here. But hear us out.
Carvoeiro is our top pick, and for good reason. It sits right in the heart of the Algarve, surrounded by golden sandstone cliffs, with easy access to some of the region’s best beaches like Praia da Marinha and Praia dos Caneiros. It’s charming without being over-touristy, walkable, and the perfect base to explore east and west.
That said, the Algarve really does cater to everyone. Lagos is brilliant if you’re into history and a lively bar scene. Ferragudo is for those who want quiet cobbled streets and a more local atmosphere. Vilamoura is your spot if you’re into marina life, golf, and a more polished resort feel. And Albufeira is the go-to for anyone who wants non-stop nightlife and a buzzing beach scene.
How far in advance should I book accommodation in the Algarve?
This one is simple: the earlier, the better. Especially if you’re travelling in July or August.
The Algarve is one of Europe’s most popular summer destinations, and the best places — particularly those with sea views or private pools — get snapped up months in advance. We’re talking 4 to 6 months ahead for peak season. Don’t be the person who leaves it to the last minute and ends up in a windowless room two kilometres from the beach.
For shoulder season (May, June, September, October), you have a bit more breathing room, but we’d still recommend booking 2 to 3 months in advance to get your first choice.
Travelling in winter? You can be more spontaneous. Many places have availability and you might even score a better rate. Just double-check that your chosen accommodation is open.
